Biography

Welcome!  I’m glad you are here.  I am a native Texan who majored in music at SMU and moved to New York City for my husband’s career in the theatre.  We were blessed with two children, and I volunteered to teach music in my son’s nursery school.  The school director offered me a head teaching position with the requirement that I would get my certification.  Teaching led to administration.  I earned the Doctor of Education degree from Columbia University and served 20-plus years as administrator, founder, and head of independent schools in New York, Texas, and California.

Our son’s death in 1999 left me feeling out of control and vulnerable, yet I thought I had to be strong for everyone else. I threw myself into work, thinking that time would eventually heal the pain.  I learned that being strong, working harder, and the passage of time don’t heal a broken heart.

Rejecting the notion of retiring, I threw myself into the “busyness” of trying new things.  I  went through various expressions of grief until I learned how important it is to take specific actions to move your life forward after loss.

I hired a Life Coach who helped me clarify my priorities, set new goals, and take meaningful actions.  During the process, I learned that coaching is helpful, not only to the bereaved, but to anyone who is willing to approach his/her daily activities and experiences with a readiness to investigate, to experiment, and to be open to new possibilities...to live the life they’ve always wanted to live.  I also discovered that coaching others was a natural match for my talents and experience as someone who has spent her life heading schools, counseling, encouraging, partnering with and supporting people of diverse ages and backgrounds.

I returned to school and received training and certification from the great coach Maria Nemeth, Ph.D., in the rigorous credentialing program at the Academy for Coaching Excellence. Subsequently, I was trained and certified as a Grief   Recovery® Specialist at the Grief Recovery Institute.  I am certified by the International Coach Federation, the leading organization representing professional coaching excellence.  I am a member of The American Counseling Association, author, lecturer, workshop leader, lay eucharist minister, and motivational speaker, listed in Who’s Who in America.  I am a wife, mother, grandmother, business woman.  My husband and I live in Southern California.

I love coaching, and it would be my joy to give you a complimentary coaching session by telephone and answer any questions you may have about partnering with a professional coach. Please contact me.
